Out with 2009...In with 2010!!!

I can't believe how fast this year went by!!!!  My family and I are leaving soon to bring in the New Year at church.  I am not a big fan of this but I am this year.  I am really excited to finish out this year and start a new year focusing on the one who created me.

In a later blog I will post about my 2009 and what I see for 2010, but I wanted to share a blog post with you first.  Sheila Walsh is one of my favorite author/speaker.  I look forward each year to read her newest book.  She wrote about ending and beginning a new year titled, "Forgiveness and a Ten Pound Bag of Flour."  I read this story in one of her books and it impacted me, so I wanted to share her blog with you all.

So What is going to make you flour free?  Happy New Year and May God bless you in 2010!!!

Davis' Christmas Program

Today was Davis' first school Christmas program.  His class sang "Jingle Bells."  He is the boy not singing.  Of course my son would be the one looking shy and confused!!  It was a great Christmas program and I am so glad Davis attends Cresthill Baptist.

Christmas Ornaments!!!

I love personalized Christmas ornaments!!! Every year when we decorate our Christmas tree we go through them and remember the special memories that go along with it. After Davis was born I decided to start a tradition with him. We are going to buy him an ornament every year, and when he gets married we will give him his ornaments for his family tree. I got this idea from a friend that does this for her kids. So each year I pick an ornament that is personal to him and what he is most into for that year.

Here are some of our Special ones....

This is Davis' first ornament.  We picked this because his room was a car theme.

Davis' second ornament.  Last year he loved airplanes (he still does) and he calls them "bees."

Last year he also wanted Santa to bring him a soccer ball so my sister in-law made this ornament for us recording him saying he wants a soccer ball.  It is so cute!!!

This years ornament was bought this summer when we were in Colorado.  He loves dressing like a cowboy!!

Our First Christmas as a Family!!

This summer we had an amazing time together on Noah's sabbatical.  So we got an ornament to remember our time in Colorado!!!

A Boatload of Faith!!!

We don't know her name so let's call her "Mrs. Noah."  She spent her days loving her husband, raising her three sons, and caring for their home.  Life was normal for her until Noah (they) got "the call" from the Lord.  God was going to destroy the earth by sending a flood and He asked Noah to build an ark.

As Noah moved forward in obedience, Mrs. Noah may have thought these questions:

  • What can I do?
  • How can I help my husband fulfill God's plan?
Here are some things she could of done and I believe we wives should do the same...

  • Pray
    • She could of prayed for mankind, her husband, and her family.
    • We should be doing this daily
  • Encourage
    • Husbands thrive on their wives' kind words towards them and support.
    • Mrs. Noah could of encouraged Noah to work.
  • Believe
    • She could of question the flood and why her husband was building an ark, but she choose to believe.
    • We need to believe in our spouse even at times when we do not want to.
  • Help
    • She could of helped with the animals and the food.
    • Find ways to help your spouse carry out their tasks.
  • Follow
    • She followed her husband by faith in him and in the Lord.
    • We need to give our husbands some credit and have faith in their ability to lead us right.  After all God does place them as the heads of our homes.  If your spouse isn't a believer, then your job is to honor and love, but pray that they would come to know the Lord.

"I will establish my covenant with you....and your wife." Genesis 6:18

Book Review

So I bought this book for my husband last year.

He read it and love it.  He wrote a post about it as well.  Click here.

So this year I read it and loved it.  It was an easy read and very practical.  The main thing that I want to share from this book is..

God loves you!
God is with you!
God is for you!
Christmas is a time to celebrate that God loves you!!

Who else would send there only son to earth to die for your sins!!!!

This is a must read and a great gift idea for someone!!!!

Santa Baby!!!

This Holiday season has been a blast already.  We have been going through the book "Count Down to Christmas" and Davis has been learning the real reason for the season.  He is learning a lot about Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus.  This has warmed our hearts that he is old enough to remember what we read or teach him.

This Little People Nativity set is one tool we use to teach Davis about the meaning of Christmas!!

Although we think it is important to teach Davis the real meaning of Christmas, we still want to have fun with the whole Santa thing as well.  One day he will know the truth about this jolly old man but for now we are having so much fun watching him believe.

Last year he wouldn't go near Santa but this year he can't wait to sit on Santa's lap and tell him what he wants for Christmas!!!

We had dinner with Santa and Mrs. Clause at Lido's pizza this week.

Thanksgiving with the Family!!!

This year some of my family came down to spend Thanksgiving in our home.  What a blessing to be able to have quality time with them.  We had a great time together and it was so sad to see it end, but I look forward to being with them again over the Christmas break.

Christmas Traditions: Decorating the Tree!!!

Every year I look forward to decorating our Christmas tree.  This year was very different because Davis wanted to play a big part in decorating.  We loved every moment watching his eyes light up as he put one of his ornaments on the tree.

Here are some pictures of this special moment....

Countdown to Christmas!!!

Christmas is my FAVORITE holiday.  I love getting into the holiday spirit with Christmas music, Trees, lights, buying gifts, wrapping, being with family and most of all experiencing it with my son Davis.

There are so many different family traditions that you can do with your family.  I have a few that I love to do every year and I will share in a later post.  This year Noah and I want to start some traditions of our own.  One thing that we decided was to read this book together every day.

This books helps explain the "true meaning of Christmas" and it gives lots of cool family activities to do.
Today was day 1 and the book talked about Advent.  They main thing Davis got out of it was that Christmas was coming soon.  At the end of reading day 1, they told us to make our own Advent calendar.  It could be numbers written on a piece of paper, a real calendar, or the one that we chose was a paper chain advent.

Davis was excited to rip the first chain off.  Now only 24 more days til Christmas.

How does your family get ready for Christmas?

Hershey Park!!!

We took Davis to Hershey Park during Thanksgiving week.  He had such a great time and so did we.  It is such a joy to make special memories with my boys!!!
